After a pair of trees were vandalized in Memorial Park just under two weeks ago, a local stepped up to replace them.

Lyle Thomson, the owner of the Swift Tree Centre, donated a pair of trees after he heard the news.

"I read the article about the trees getting vandalized, and I just thought that was a shame," he said. "I knew there was something I could do about it. I had a few extra trees on hand this fall, and I thought they'd be great to help out the city with."

The trees that were planted Wednesday afternoon were True North American Linden.

"I thought we could start giving back to our community," Thomson added. "It was just a good opportunity for myself to do that."
