Dorie's House is Swift Current is supposed to close October 4th, but there is new optomism for the youth shelter.

Saskatchewan Social Services Minister Paul Merriman stopped by Swift Current yesterday to see a number of community-based organizations, including the shelter for youth that are either homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

Dorie's House board member Shaun Hanna said the meeting with Merriman was a very positive one.

"What Minister Merriman has committed to us is we are going to present a proposal to them, and that he will look at if there's overlapping mandates between the services we provide and what is within the social services for review."

The shelter hasn't been able to secure provincial funding and has largely relied on private-sector donations of time and money in its construction and operation.
