Regina Saskatchewan - Nicholas Flood Davin 1843-1901 publishes the first issue of the Regina Leader; today's Leader-Post is Saskatchewan's oldest surviving newspaper

 

1893

Nikola Tesla makes the first public demonstration of radio in St. Louis, Missouri.

 

1912

Albert Berry makes the first parachute jump from a moving airplane. This guy must have been one gutsy man.

 

1932

The son of Charles Lindbergh, Charles Augustus Lindbergh III, is kidnapped.

 

1954

The last working organ used for background music and sound effects for silent films left the Palace Theatre in downtown Calgary for a new home in a Lethbridge church. The organ had 500 pipes, ranging from small ones the size of a lead pencil to large ones more than eight feet tall.

 

2005

The Civic Center expansion, the water treatment plant and some City streets, are just a few areas where the Federal funds could be spent in Swift Current.
Five billion dollars was promised to Municipalities across the country from the Federal Gas Tax.
Matt Noble, Swift Current’s Chief Administrative Officer, says Swift Current could be getting over $250 thousand this year and next year.
We could also see over $2 million in the next five years coming from the Federal Government.

 

2009

Clint Black is a contestant as "The Celebrity Apprentice" begins a new season on NBC. Other participants, required to bake and sell cupcakes in the opener, include Scott Hamilton, Brian McKnight, Dennis Rodman and Joan and Melissa Rivers

-42- Johnny Cash marries June Carter at the Methodist Church in Franklin, Kentucky. Carter's "Ring Of Fire" co-writer Merle Kilgore is best man. Carlene Carter's $1-a-week allowance, earned by mowing the lawn, rises to $10-a-week


Mark-Paul Gosselaar –36- Zack Morris on NBC's Saved by the Bell, detective John Clark on NYPD Blue,

 

(Haivier) Javier Bardem –41-  He is the first Spanish actor to be nominated for an Oscar (Best Actor, 2000, for Before Night Falls) as well as the first to win (Supporting Actor, 2007, for No Country for Old Men).

 

Ron Howard –56- American film director and producer, as well as an actor. Howard came to prominence in the 1960s while playing Andy Griffith's TV son, Opie Taylor, on The Andy Griffith Show (credited as Ronny Howard), and later in the 1970s as Howard Cunningham's son and Arthur Fonzarelli's best friend, Richie Cunningham, on Happy Days.
