William McDougall slips in to Red River Colony at night and reads the proclamation that officially declares the Hudson's Bay Company territory's annexation to Canada.

American Old West: Second-in-command of Butch Cassidy's Wild Bunch gang, Kid Curry Logan, is sentenced to 20 years imprisonment with hard labor.

At 1 pm, an 8.5 pound stone meteorite falls from the sky and strikes Elizabeth Hulitt Hodge from Sylacauga, Alabama. The housewife was seriously bruised but survived, although the meteorite destroyed her radio.
This is the only documented case of a human being hit by a rock from space.

Russ Jackson throws record four touchdowns as Frank Clair's Ottawa Rough Riders beat Saskatchewan Roughriders 29-11 in 57th CFL Grey Cup game.

Dr. John McCrae - was a Canadian poet, physician, author, artist and soldier during World War I and a surgeon during the Second Battle of Ypres. He is best known for writing the famous war memorial poem "In Flanders Fields".

-born in 1835- Mark Twain - He is noted for his novels Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1885), called "the Great American Novel", and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876). Twain was a friend to presidents, artists, industrialists, and European royalty.

-35- Mindy McCready born in Fort Myers, Florida. Her sassy, confident approach nets late-1990s hits with "Ten Thousand Angels" and "Guys Do It All The Time," but she falls into a publicly reported downward spiral a decade later
