Swift Current city council proclaimed that the week of May 16 to 20, 2022 will be recognized as Naturopathic Medicine Week during Monday night’s meeting.

Naturopathic medicine is a distinct primary healthcare system that blends modern, scientific knowledge with traditional and natural healing.

Throughout the week, Across Canada and the United States, naturopathic doctors will be teaching members of their community about the value of naturopathic medicine, healthy living and disease prevention.

Dr. Leshia Ferguson, a naturopathic doctor in Swift Current and member of the Saskatchewan Association of Naturopathic Doctors, said that the practice relies on many different tools as opposed to conventional medicine.

“It focuses more on lifestyles such as healthy nutrition, botanical medicine, vitamins and minerals, herbs, Asian medicines, acupuncture and Asian herbs, and lifestyle counselling,” she explained. “All of this focus is on helping the body to truly heal itself.”

Ferguson added that the week of recognition is a great way for individuals to learn more about naturopathic medicine.

Naturopathic doctors are experts in natural functional medicines and treat all health conditions from acute to chronic pediatric to geriatric and physical to psychological.

The Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctor’s has virtual events available throughout the week, located on their website, for supporting and improving mental health.

Ferguson will also be hosting a live event on her Facebook and Instagram pages @healingrootsnaturopathicclinic this Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
