A Wednesday-night pursuit of a man believed by police to have been high on drugs in a stolen car has resulted in a lengthy list of charges.

Robert Edward Sanoffsky - a 31 year old from Calgary - allegedly stole a 2006 Kia Sedona minivan in Calgary, before doing a 'gas and dash' in Tompkins, and leading police on a chase around Swift Current.

He went through Swift Current, and was located north of Rush Lake, according to Swift Current Rural RCMP (one of two detachments involved), avoided a spike strip, drove up Highway 32 toward Cabri, where police found the driver and were successful catching him thanks to two more spike strips.

Sanoffsky is charged with impaired operation by a drug (the specific drug isn't yet known - though the police say they know it's not alcohol), dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, operation of a motor vehicle while being pursued by police, possession of stolen property over $5,000 (the van), theft under $5,000, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, failure to comply with a probation order.

No injuries arose from the chase, and Sanoffsky remains in custody. He is scheduled to appear in Swift Current Provincial Court via video on September 5 at 10:30 a.m.

The Swift Current Rural RCMP remind the public to not leave their keys in their vehicles, and to lock their doors.
