A new coach is stepping up to the plate for the Swift Current 57’s.

Tim Brown will be making the trek to the prairies all the way from Newport Beach, California, for the 2023 season.

Ryan Switzer, President of the 57’s, said that Brown will be bringing numerous assets to the team.

“He's going to bring strong, stable, leadership to the organization,” he stated. “He's going to be someone, in talking to him, who really hopes that the players that he recruits to come and play here leave Swift current as better people. He's going to hold the young men on our team accountable. He's going to hold them to a high standard. He has researched the proud winning history of the Swift Current 57’s and he's going to be a great fit going forward.”

Brown has an extensive history with the sport, which dates back to 1978.

He has had experience in the Cape Cod League, NCAA, United States Baseball Federation in Ecuador, The New England Collegiate Baseball League, The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League and most recently, he held the position of Head Coach/Director of Baseball Operations of the Orange Country Riptide of the California Collegiate League.

Brown also acted as an assistant coach for the Kelowna Falcons of the West Coast League in 2020 and 2021.

Switzer added that although many candidates were considered, it became obvious that Brown would be the right fit for the job.

“There were other coaching opportunities within our league, and he researched them, and this was the only one that he applied for,” he continued. “He said, in the research about the 57’s organization and the proud winning history that it has, and even researching Swift Current, he felt like this was a great fit for him.

“Once myself and Brad Woods, our director of baseball operations, had the chance to meet with him over zoom, we knew that this was going to be a good fit. We just kind of looked at each other and had a feeling that our search was over once we really got talking to him.”

He also noted that the new addition to the 57’s will have a positive impact on the community as a whole.

“He's not just going to do good things for our organization on the field, but off the field as well,” Switzer explained. “He has a plethora of amazing life experiences, even not related to baseball. He is a professor of critical thinking and in Newport Beach, he is a very educated man. Looking at his resume away from baseball, he done things like be a board chair for his local Chamber of Commerce. So, he's a fantastic baseball guy, but almost as important and more importantly, he's an amazing human.”

The 2023 season will begin at home on Friday, May 26, when the 57’s host the Regina Red Sox.
