Later today the new leader of the Conservative Party of Canada will be announced with four candidates vying for the coveted position.

Peter MacKay, Leslyn Lewis, Erin O'Toole, and Derek Sloan are the four candidates running for the title and would immediately become the leader of the House of Commons opposition party.

Cypress Hills-Grasslands MP Jermey Patzer said he's been very public in backing the lone woman candidate Lewis.

"I think she's ran a great campaign," he said. "It's been a very refreshing change for our membership but also for Canadians who aren't members who have been watching this anyway with a keen interest on what's going on. She's had a message of courage, compassion, and common sense. Just her overall positive campaign has resonated very well. I've been proud to support Leslyn Lewis all along."

Voting was held by a postal ballot due to COVID and closed to members on Friday at 3 p.m. local time, giving the party time to tabulate the votes.

The next leader of the Conservative Party of Canada will be shared with the public today at 4 p.m.
