Incumbent Gord Budd is back on City Council, collecting the largest amount of votes. He says the support is an overwhelming endorsement of the direction Council has been taking. The votes tell him that the citizens believe Council has been doing a good job, and they want to keep the momentum going.
Lawyer Ryan Plewis came in second in the vote. He says the support indicates that having someone with a legal background is important for Council, and he also has a strong family name in Swift Current. He adds that it was a humbling experience running for city politics, and he is looking forward to starting his work on Council.
Denis Perrault, a Chartered Accountant, was elected with the third-largest amound of votes. He says he's excited to work with the new Council, and is also happy that both incumbents got in as well.
Coming in fourth was Funeral Director Dan Martens. He says he will stick with what he campaigned on, saying that the city should be fiscally responsible, continue the city's growth, and improve communication.
Incumbent Tim Bugera was re-elected in fifth place. He says he will continue working with the drug task-force, people in the community, and RCMP to control a youth drug problem.
Reporter George Bowditch came in as the final Councillor elected. He says he really wants to work on making sure there is an open communication line between the city and its residents; after all, it was them who chose the new government, and their job is to listen to what they have to say.
Seven candidates fell short in their bid to become Councillors. They are Shauna Fjaagesund, Lance Baumann, Trevor Koot, Len Stein, Henry Banman, Gail Schroh, and Ricardo Morin. Here are the final results...
