Maple Creek New Names photo

Construction continues on the new Southwest Integrated Healthcare Facility in Maple Creek.

The Cypress Lodge Nursing Home was host to the Long Term Care Home Naming Revealing Party on Wednesday, where the Cypress Health Region announced the names chosen for the 3 homes as Prairie Oasis, Paradise Pines and Prairie Meadows, with each home having its own colour represented.

"The process we used, we had staff involved, we had family involved, we had local community and we had residents involved in actually coming up with the names," said Kim Swanson, Health Services Manager for the Health Region in Maple Creek. "We wanted to have something that was representative of the local geography and ecology that people could recognize, rather than just having it the green home the yellow home we wanted something that stood out, was a little bit distinctive and interesting."

Forty-five people were in attendance at the announcement at the Cypress Lodge and Swanson says the anticipation grows for the residents and family of the Care Homes as the opening nears.

"There is a lot of excitement around moving into the new homes," he added. "It is going to be a completely different look, moving from an institutional model and into a home like model."

The opening date of the three homes is still set for early October as long as everything with the construction of the acute care side of the health facility continues on track.
