A new protocol is now in effect aimed at protecting Canada's grain quality assurance system from contamination by ineligible varieties.

The new rules are the result of a deal struck by the Canadian Wheat Board and Western Grain Elevator Association.

Executive Director Wade Sobkowich notes producers must now sign a declaration stating the grain they deliver is an eligible variety for the class they are delivering into.

Sobkowich has not heard any negative feedback about the new rules, and feels it's because growers understand why they're necessary.
