The Saskatchewan Safety Council is hoping for no fatalities on our highways this Canada Day long weekend.

40 per cent of fatal road accidents in the province each year happen in June, July and August, and Harley Toupin with the Safety Council hopes the weekend will make drivers more aware of the seriousness of the problem.

Toupin says drivers should use common sense on the road, never drink and drive, always buckle up, and take plenty of time to get to your destination.

Also, Toupin advises motorists to "see, think, and do", look around and be aware of hazards on the road, think about how to protect yourself, and act on it.
