All of Canada has recently come together to mourn the lives of 215 children whose lives were taken at the Kamloops Indian Residential School.

Communities all over the country have payed tribute to the lost lives while also trying to spread awareness.

The city of Swift Current has been no different. On Monday, the City lowered the flags outside City Hall to Half Mast for 215 hours. As well, we and all of our other stations went off the air at 2:15 on Monday for :56 seconds.

However, the tributes for the lost children are far from over.

Last night, The Chinook School Division posted on Facebook, asking families to help raise awareness about Residential Schools and to have children dress in orange today.

The post said, "We encourage everyone to wear something orange on Friday, June 4, to honor the 215 children whose lives were taken at the Kamloops Indian Residential School, and all indigenous children who were never returned to their homes, the survivors and their families."

The post went on to say, "Chinook families are invited to take some time to learn about the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action and give some thought to how you can support and take action. There are several age appropriate books and resources in school libraries and local public libraries." The end of the post provided links to available online resources for families.

This morning, O.M. Irwin School put together their own beautiful tribute.

Written on large orange paper, "EVERY CHILD MATTERS" is spelled out across the fence in front of the school. The phrase is accompanied by orange hearts scattered along the fence.

As tributes continue to grow, the community also continues to come together in shared grief.
