After scoring three goals in their past four games, the Swift Current Broncos (21-30-5-2) put up six on Wednesday night, picking up a huge two points with a 6-3 win over the Prince Albert Raiders (23-29-3-1).

Kayden Sadhra-Kang gave the Broncos the lead half way through the first period. The Broncos had numbers into the Prince Albert zone off the rush, and the puck was flipped on goal by Raphael Pelletier.

Tikhon Chaika easily steered the puck away with his right pad, but it went to the tape of Sadhra-Kang who fired in his third goal of the season to put Swift Current up 1-0 11:31 into the game.

The Raiders answered back less than three minutes later. After a lengthy shift in the Broncos zone, Sloan Stanick had the puck near the crease and was able to fire it past Isaac Poulter to tie the game at one.

Not long after the goal, Hayden Pakkala hit Josh Fluker from behind which started a scrum with all 10 players on the ice getting involved. Poulter came out of his crease to try and break it up, which resulted in the Broncos being down on a 4-on-3 penalty kill as Pakkala was given five and a game, but Poulter was given a penalty for leaving the crease while Sam McGinley picked up two for cross checking.

On the ensuing power play Prince Albert would take a 2-1 lead as Evan Herman took a cross-seam pass in the right circle and fired in his 22nd of the year, giving the Raiders their first lead of the night.

The lead lasted just 44 seconds as Carter Stebbings tied the game. Stebbings eluded a hit along the left-wing boards of the Raider zone before dancing around Remy Aquilon and cutting to the net. Tayem Gislason tried to swipe the puck away from Stebbings, but inadvertently put it into his own net to tie the game. It was counted as a power play goal for the Broncos as Josh Filmon, serving McGinley’s cross checking penalty, was just stepping out of the box.

The two teams went into the intermission tied 2-2 with the shots 12-8 Prince Albert.

The Broncos regained the lead in the second period and then quickly struck again, both goals coming off the stick of Karson King. The first came when Fluker’s one timer from the blue line was stopped, but King jumped on the rebound and slid it through the five hole of Chaika 6:08 into the period.

Off the ensuing face off Connor Hvidston took a hard shot from the slot that missed the net, but came off the end wall to King who was charging to the net, and he was able to lift it over the blocker of Chaika for his second goal of the game, coming just 11 seconds after his first.

The goal ended the night for Chaika who was replaced by Max Hildebrand in the Prince Albert net.

On a power play later in the period Mathew Ward fired a perfectly-placed shot over the glove of Hildebrand, picking up his 22nd of the year to put Swift Current ahead 5-2 heading into the third.

The score remained 5-2 until the final minutes of the game when the Raiders pulled Hildebrand for the extra attacker and Nolan Allan scored to cut the Broncos lead to two.

That was as close as the Raiders would come as Pelletier hit the empty net from centre ice to seal the 6-3 win.

The Broncos now return home to host the Medicine Hat Tigers (11-41-3-1) on Friday.
