The City of Swift Current is still waiting to hear if they'll receive federal funding to rehabilitate the south-side overpass.

Detailed engineering and work plans are completed for the project that's expected to cost about $4 million.

"We're to the stage where we're ready to tender for a contractor to actually do the work. In the meantime, we've made application to the Building Canada Fund for three-party funding to assist us with the work," said  Mitch Minken , the General Manager, Infrastructure & Operations at City of Swift Current.

It's estimated that it will take from May until October to complete the project, so if approved, the work wouldn't begin until next year.

"We're in a spot where we can't proceed until that funding approval is either approved or turned down. So at this point, it's in a hold," Minken said.

If approved, the project would be funded by the City, province and federal government with each party contributing a third.  Minken says the last rehabilitation of the overpass occurred in the 1990s.
