The New Democratic Party has named its nominee for Cypress Hills-Grasslands in the upcoming federal election.

Trevor Peterson was announced as the NDP representative in the upcoming election at the party's nomination meeting earlier this week.

"I've been working for the organization here in Cypress-Hills Grasslands, and there's a lot of good people in this organization, and I decided it was well worth it," Peterson said when talking about why he wanted to run. "Just because of the people that I'm working with and the organization."

For Peterson, this is the third time he will represent the NDP for the riding,

"To me, it has a lot to do with friendship," he said. "It also has a lot to do with what the NDP stands for, and that's investing in people."

Peterson said that he is encouraged for this election by what he has seen over his time with the NDP.

"I think what is encouraging is the groundwork over the last eight years that I've been involved in," he said. "We've built a tremendous network and progressive people in southwest Saskatchewan who are willing to volunteer and support the NDP and to run an effective campaign."

Peterson will run against the Conservative Nominee Jeremy Patzer and People's Party of Canada nominee Lee A. Harding in the upcoming election.
