Saskatchewan Government Insurance has released its traffic figures for the month of May.

Kelly Brinkworth is with SGI and says while the traffic safety spotlight focused on impaired driving, police caught more than 3 thousand speeders.

"As the weather warms up, maybe people aren't as concerned about driving so they're going a little bit faster, but you also consider that we say 223 for distracted driving, 289 for not using a seatbelt, car seat or booster seat - and that's a very dangerous, risky situation to be in," said Brinkworth.

She adds that 131 impaired drivers were caught in May, and says we're seeing more and more cases of distracted driving in the province.

"If you're getting a text message or you're getting a call, put it out of sight. When you're in the graduated licensing, you're actually not even permitted to use a hands-free device. If you're am experienced driver you are but SGI would always recommend that if you do have to make a call, pull off to the side of the road and do it that way," Brinkworth said.
