SaskPower announcing this week that they are working with two companies to develop "clean coal" technology.

 

The crown announced it would be teaming up with Babcock and Wilcox Canada and Air Liquide of France to drop plans for a 300 megawatt, $1.5 billion plant to be built somewhere in the province by 2011

SaskPower's media spokesperson, Larry Christie says the project would capture 8,000 tonnes of CO2 a day.

He adds that the liquified CO2 could be sold to the oil and gas industry, with any remaining CO2 able to be stored underground indefinately.

The "clean coal" plant is at the feasibillity stage. A decision to process the project in expected by mid-2007.
