Preparations are well underway for the 19th Scotiabank Hockey Day In Canada that's being hosted from Swift Current February 6 - 9, 2019.  A crew from Sportsnet have been in Swift Current this week scouting locations, checking facilities and meeting with representatives from the local committee. The actual hockey day is February 9 but there will be a few days of celebrating our great game starting Wednesday, February 6.

Darling says coming to Swift Current was their choice for several reasons, "We know that this area loves hockey, it is the 30th anniversary of the Memorial Cup win by the Broncos (2019), that's a great reason to be here. We knew there were some tough times back in the late 80s with the bus crash that happened here. We were looking at this before what happened in Humboldt and again looking at Swift Current there were alot of reasons to come here. We have a theme every year and this year the theme is courage and we'll celebrate that with different stories not only in Swift Current but across the country."

Ron Maclean and Don Cherry will both be in Swift Current for the event and will tape an episode of Coaches Corner from the iplex. The greatest trophy in sports...the Stanley Cup will also make an appearance.

A ton of events are planned over the course of the event including a banquet Thursday, February 7 that Ron Maclean & Don Cherry will be at.  Maclean will host the day on February 9 from Riverdene Park and the out door rink with the day wrapping up as the Broncos host the Saskatoon Blades at the iplex who were also the two teams that met in the 1989 Memorial Cup final in Saskatoon with the Broncos winning in overtime.

More details are coming as it draws closer but mark it on your calendar and plan to be a part of Scotiabank Hockey Day In Canada February 6-9 in Swift Current.
