With Pride Week officially underway in the City of Swift Current, a story from last week continues to receive international attention.

The rainbow coloured crosswalk that was installed on the 200 block of Central Avenue North has shone a bright light on Swift Current once again.

"It's amazing to see that Swift Current has been positioned as leaders on a national stage," said Shaun Hanna, Vice-Chair of Southwest Saskatchewan Pride. "Really we could not have done it without the immense support of City Council, Mayor Perrault and the admin staff at City Hall have been very welcoming and helpful with us."

The crosswalk has been permanently painted the rainbow colours of the LGBTQ community making history in the province.

"It's actually the first of it's kind in Saskatchewan," Hanna added. "We actually beat out all other cities in Saskatchewan to install a mark of pride for our community. It's a historical and monumental gesture to the LGBTQ community."

Pride Week runs from May 28th until June 3rd and has eight activites planned thoughout the week.
