Swift Current's U18 A Provincial Team took a 5-3 win over Weyburn Wednesday night at S3 Arenas to win their first-round playoff series by a total score of 7-5.

Ryder Smith had a three-point night with two goals and an assist, and Rhett Jamieson made 30 saves for the win. The south semi-final will see Swift Current facing the Assiniboia Rebels, who beat Yorkton on Tuesday to advance.

In other minor hockey, the Full Line Ag U18 AA Wildcats had their game against the Western Prairie Thunder postponed due to poor travel conditions in west central Saskatchewan. The game has been rescheduled to tonight in Dodsland.

The Pure Chem U15 Broncos host Weyburn tonight at 7:15pm from S3 Arenas, and the Graphic Edge U15 Wildcats head to Regina to take on the Rebels.

In the WHL, Jagger Firkus had a hat trick as the Moose Jaw Warriors doubled up the Edmonton Oil Kings 6-3. Elsewhere, Winnipeg routed Calgary 8-2 and Prince George beat Kelowna 7-2. The Swift Current Broncos return to action Friday night against Prince Albert. 

In the NHL, K’Andre Miller had three assists as the New York Rangers beat the Vancouver Canucks 4-3. The Rangers have won their third straight game while the Canucks have lost their second in a row as they get set to face former captain Bo Horvat and the New York Islanders tonight. Also tonight, Calgary visits Detroit and Edmonton travels to Philadelphia.

Team Kesslering picks up first win at U18 Nationals

Swift Current’s Aryn Thibault and the Cara Kesslering rink split their two games yesterday at the Canadian Under-18 Curling Championship in Timmins, Ontario. They defeated Ontario’s Katrina Frian 6-5 for their first win at the event in the morning draw before falling to BC’s Keelie Duncan 7-6 in the evening. 

Team Kesslering will wrap up round-robin against Saskatoon’s Savanna Taylor later this morning.

Raptors beat and make a deal with Spurs ahead of trade deadline

Pascal Siakam had 37 points and 10 rebounds as the Toronto Raptors beat the San Antonio Spurs 112-98 at Scotiabank Arena Wednesday night. 

The NBA's trade deadline is this afternoon with Siakam, Fred VanVleet and OG Anunoby among the Raptors rumoured to be on the move. Toronto picked up Jakub Poetl from the Spurs Wednesday night for Khem Birch, a 2024 first-round pick and two second-round picks. 

Meanwhile, Kevin Durant is off to the Phoenix Suns in a late-night blockbuster trade. The former league MVP was dealt from Brooklyn along with TJ Warren in exchange for Cam Johnson, Mikal Bridges, Jae Crowder and four unprotected first-round draft picks. The Nets have now moved the last of their "big three" superstars with James Harden traded at last year's deadline and Kyrie Irving sent to the Dallas Mavericks after demanding a trade earlier this week.
