literacy day

It's unsettling to think that 2/5 Canadians are functionally illiterate.

January 27th marks Family Literacy Day, and it will be celebrated with a fun event in Swift Current on Friday.

This year marks the 15th anniversarry of Family Literacy Day, and to commemorate this, the theme for this year is "15 Minutes of Fun".

"Everything starts Friday at 9:30 in the centre court of the Swift Current Mall," said Jenise Tisdale with the Southwest Literacy Committee, "The day includes 4 story sessions, after each story session we have a bunch of activities for the kids to participate in, and then each child is sent home with the book that was read so they can share that with their family."

Another event marking Family Literacy Day is a storytime on January 31st at 6:30pm at the Family Resource Centre.
