The question of $50,000 being enough came up at the last Swift Current city council meeting.

The opportunity to ask if $50,000 is a high enough salary cap for city employees emerged during the report on the City's financial data that doesn't come up in the regular report.

One of the matters presented by Kari Cobler, the general manager of corporate services for the City of Swift Current, was that the City had 193 employees under that threshold in 2022.

Councillor Ryan Plewis inquired about the origin of that threshold.

"Is that something that's made by legislation," asked Plewis. "Or is that something we decide on internally,"?

The stipulation it turns out, as revealed by Cobler, is inherited from the City's Act, and incorporated in the associated regulations.

Plewis accepted that answer and also commented on the value of a modern $50,000.

"$50,000 is not what it once was," he pointed out.

That was the end of that discussion, with no further comments made or motions passed in relation to that specific matter.
