For the first time since 2018, the Southwest Quilters Guild Quilt Show has set up shop in Swift Current.

The event, which will kick off this morning at 10 a.m., is set to feature a vast assortment of quilts, explained Marcie Erick, president of the Southwest Quilters Guild.

“We've got 25 members that will be displaying their beautiful quilts,” she elaborated. “Every different size, shape, and colour that you can imagine. We're going to fill the First United Church; it's shaping up to be an excellent day.”

Typically, the event takes place every two years, however, the event was cancelled in 2020, just weeks before the show was supposed to take place.

“We are all so excited,” Erick stated. “This is huge for us; we love to showcase our work and some of the artists that I get to quilt with are just amazing. Their work is beautiful, and they're all so different and unique, and I can't wait to see them all together.”

In addition to the stunning creations from the members of the guild, there will also be some special vendors at the show.

“Broderick's out of Outlook is set up for the day with all their beautiful quilting supplies and fabrics for your shopping,” she elaborated. “There is a boutique from our Guild and we have Pam Robertson from Medicine Hat as well. She's going to be set up all day to talk about Canada's legacy and wartime quilting. It's a really good lesson, I've heard her speak a couple of times and she's absolutely amazing.

“We have displays from quilts of Valor Canada and some RCMP quilts as well as Victoria Quilts, and we have a section of vintage and antique quilts on display as well.”

Coffee, tea, and cookies will be served from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and coffee, tea and pie from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Admission to enter is five dollars and grants attendees entry into the draw prize.

Erick added that the prizes were donated from various places in the community.

“We've got baskets and gift certificates and homemade items from different places in town and that just absolutely warms my heart to see,” she explained.

The event will be taking place at the First United Church until 8:00 p.m. tonight.
