The local Rod Quintin rink is now out of contention at the SaskTel Southern Men's Curling Playdowns in Swift Current after a heartbreaking loss to Al Schick in the C-Event Saturday afternoon.

Quintin was trailing 6-4 after eight ends, but scored one in the ninth, and stole another in the tenth to send it to an extra end. However, Schick would use the hammer to score one in the 11th and take the game 7-6.

Meanwhile, the other local skip Max Kirkpatrick recovered from a tough two-loss day on Friday with a 7-0 win over Glenn Batty in C-Event action to stay alive. Kirkpatrick opened the scoring with one in the first, and after Batty blanked the next three ends, Kirkpatrick stole a total six points, including three in the seventh and final end.

Kirkpatrick faces Jeff Hartung in a C-event semi final this morning at 9:30am.

Three of the five qualifiers for the SaskTel Tankard are set, with Brent Gedak winning the A-final 7-2 over Randy Bryden, Chris Busby later beat Bryden 9-6 in a B-final, and Brent Goeres defeated Jason Krupski 7-3 in the other B qualifier.

The C-finals go this afternoon at 2:00pm at the Swift Current Curling Club.
