SaskPower's plan to raise its rates by about 5% a year for the next three years has been quashed by the Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel.

An average rate hike of 5.5% has been approved for this year, and the panel has granted conditional approval for a 5% increase in 2015, but denied a request for another 5% increase in 2016.

Saying they have concerns over the Crown Utility's forecasting costs, the panel also says the need and timing of new projects have also been a point of question, and that SaskPower should be more clear about its plans
