(Ruth Magee and her daughter Megan at the fundraiser for Ron and Evan Wedrick in Tompkins a couple weeks ago)

When Ron and Evan Wedrick were seriously injured in the wild fires near Tompkins in October, friend and neighbor Ruth Magee was quick to take the lead and organize a benefit fundriaser for the family that to date has raised about $184,000 with more donations coming in. She adds they've received donations from Lumsden to Calgary and all points in between.

Ruth was jointly nominated by the communties of Carmichael, Tompkins, and Gull Lake and is quick to say it wasn't just her, but an entire community effort from many volunteers and people willing to donate and help in any way. Ruth said she accepts the recognition on behalf of everyone.

Ron and Even continue their recovery in a Calgary hospital and are healing and making progress but it will continue to be a a long, uphill battle.

For stepping up and helping out her friends and neighbors, Ruth gets this weeks eagle applause and a gift card from Schultz's Ranch Country Meats in Morse. Thank you Ruth and all who helped out and were involved!
