The Salvation Army is looking for the public's support all through the year, but the need is always greatest at Christmas time.

The charity's 99th Christmas Campaign will kick off on Saturday at Swift Current Mall with a pancake breakfast from 8:30 to 10:00am and the grand opening of the Miracle Room, which provides a chance for people to donate money for the Christmas kettles, food for the Christmas hampers, and gifts for the Angel Tree to help children in need.

"There's tags on the Angel Tree and it has what the child's main wish is for Christmas, so you can help out by taking down an angel and buying a kid that might not be able to have anything for Christmas what they most want in the entire world," said Captain Michael Ramsay.

He adds they have a fundraising goal of $170,000 this year, which works out to around $10 for everyone who lives in Swift Current, but says even the smallest donations are appreciated.

"Even a child putting in a loonie or quarter, every little bit goes to help those in need in our community," Ramsay added. "If you've got nothing at all, or you're just able to donate your time standing on the kettles, smiling at people and thanking people who are helping others as well. Anything that one can offer goes a long way to help give hope to those in need in our community."

Meanwhile, those who feel they need a Christmas hamper this year can apply for one from November 26th to December 7th by coming to the Salvation Army office Monday through Thursday.
