Saskatchewan Green Party leader Victor Lau was in Swift Current this week listening to the questions and concerns of local seniors.

Lau visited a local retirement residence and said he was surprised and proud to learn that he was the only political leader who had come to visit, considering Swift Current is the home town of Premier Brad Wall. While there, Lau says he spoke with residents regarding a variety of issues.

"I think a lot of the things centered on income security and senior programming. What is going to happen in terms of accessibility for the future in terms people being able to find a safe combination as they grow older. We had a well rounded discussion not only on our platform but just what concerns them, so that was kind of nice."

In terms of the debate format Lau says he was disappointed , however in Regina, they did manage to get onto Access Communication where they had all four parties which Lau said was more inclusive and allowed a diversity of voices. An advantage was that they were not allowed to argue which was the dismal part of the leaders debate according to Lau where two people just yelled at each other for an hour.

Lau hopes that pressure is put on to have a democratic debate within the next four years that includes the major parties if not all of the parties in order to allow for a more rounded discussion.

According to Lau, in order to make the province more green, the next premier needs to lay down a transition plan and work with stakeholders. We need to start diversifying the economy toward solar technology, wind technology as well as geothermal technology.

Lau adds another aspect towards making the province more green is sustainability.

"It's changing the way we create energy that is more sustainable as well as what are the future jobs in the green economy. We should look at that and how do we create sustainable jobs that wont just be booming and busting all the time. a steady state economy. I think that is where the Green Party really comes to shine."

"We already have the ideas and they have been done around the world. We simply will be mirroring what has already been successful in Germany, Europe and other countries," says Lau.

When asked what he will be doing on election night, Lau says they will hopefully be celebrating the victories of some of the candidates.

The Saskatchewan Green Party has fifty-eight candidates including the first transgender candidate in the history of Saskatchewan. George Watson is the Green candidate for the Swift Current riding.
