The show will go on... Virtually.

The Saskatchewan Country Music Association Board of Directors has voted to change the 2022 event, and move ahead in a virtual setting.

The group pointed to the thought process behind the decision in a statement issued on their social media.

“Reasoning behind the decision is that the costs due to the current Covid mandates as well as decrease in committed sponsorship this year.“

The 33rd SCMA Awards were originally scheduled to take place April 22-23 in Swift Current.

The board of directors added in their statement that the decision wasn’t easy, but felt it was necessary. The group is planning to host the 34th SCMA Awards Show live in Weyburn.

Even though the awards have shifted online again this year, the ceremony will still be a celebration of the best country, roots, and gospel music talent the province has to offer.

Along with that, the night will highlight Saskatchewan's best singers, songwriters, musicians, producers, media, and industry professionals.

Final ballots will be submitted on February 13th and the awards show will be held online in the spring.

Earlier this month, the group also announced the closing of the Northeast Chapter.
