This year has seen more cases of West Nile Virus than any other year.

The number of cases of West Nile Virus continues to climb as we move out of the peak risk period for the virus.

As of last Friday, over 1200 cases were reported in the province.

Phil Curry, West Nile Coordinator, says it's been a fairly high year in Western Canada, with more cases in Saskatchewan, southern Manitoba, and Alberta.  He says, however, Saskatchewan also has 3 times the prairie area than Manitoba, and 1.5 times the prairie area than Alberta, which means more habitat for Culex Tarsalis.

Four Saskatchewan residents died this summer as a result of complications from the West Nile Virus.
