Southwest residents in a few different communities will have to sit in the dark on Sunday.

SaskPower is scheduling a planned power outage that will affect over 4,000 customers. Expected to last four hours, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., it will affect the following communities.

Gull Lake, Carmichael, Tompkins, Piapot, Maple Creek, Hatton,  and Cypress Hills Provincial Park along with the Nekaneet First Nation.

Joel Cherry, a spokesperson for SaskPower, revealed that this is part of work being done to upgrade some aging infrastructure.

"We're going to require another planned outage the following weekend," shared Cherry. "On March 17th, we're still figuring out exactly what time that's going to occur, but that's actually going to be even a little bit larger than this outage."

SaskPower is working to replace an aging transmission line. The work this weekend will be to transfer power onto a separate line, removing the charge in the old setup. Once they get the other half of the preparations done next weekend, they can begin salvaging the old infrastructure.
