Three stolen points late in the game helped Robyn Silvernagle and her team from the Battlefords beat Regina’s Brooklyn Stevenson 6-2 in the opening draw of the Viterra Scotties Provincial Women’s Curling Championship on Wednesday in Estevan.

The game was tied 2-2 after five ends but Silvernagle, with Swift Current’s Kelly Schafer playing third, pulled away with one in the sixth and a steal of two in the eighth, and then stole one more point in the ninth to wrap up the win.

Other action from the Scotties had 10-time provincial champion Sherry Anderson defeating Madison Kleiter 8-7 in an extra end, Ashley Howard defeated Jessica Mitchell 7-4 and Lorraine Schneider doubled up Cindy Ricci 8-4. Howard will face defending champion Penny Barker, Schneider takes on Nancy Martin and Anderson faces 2011 Canadian champion Amber Holland in the other quarter-final matchups.
