Vandalism that occurred at Oman School earlier this month

The Chinook School Division is beefing up security at Oman, following reports of vandalism and mischief on the former school.

Earlier this month, RCMP received calls about several youth being on the roof of Oman School. They also found two broken windows on the west side of the school near the basketball courts.

"We are aware of those incidents and so right away we put preventative measures in place," said Joanne Booth, Communications Coordinator at the Chinook School Division.

The school division hired Ghost Security to conduct on site inspections and video cameras have been installed. The contractor is posting signage on the west gate which is pad locked, and other gates will be closed nightly.

"Some of our staff was already aware but we also received some direct contact from some neighbours in area. We really appreciate that the neighbours have been so vigilant and watching the site and contacting us directly with their concerns," Booth said.

She adds that if anyone sees any suspicious activity at Oman School, to contact the school division and the RCMP.
