A heads up from SGI, April's Traffic Safety Spotlight is focusing on speeding and aggressive driving.

“When you look at the sheer number of speeding and aggressive driving offences that take place each and every month, it's also a good reminder that traffic enforcement on Saskatchewan roads has never been stronger,” said SGI’s Manager of Media Relations, Tyler McMurchy.

He said there are more traffic officers out there than ever before.

Speeding is one of the top factors in collisions, in injuries and in deaths on Saskatchewan roads.

“As of May of last year, speeding tickets across the board in Saskatchewan got more expensive,” said McMurchy.

He said going even 20 km/h over the limit on a regular stretch of road is a $190 ticket, which, for most people, is not cheap.

“It's really important to remember that those speed limits that you see posted on the side of the road, those aren't suggestions, that's the law,” he said. “If you exceed those speed limits, you're looking at a ticket, which can be very costly, depending on how fast you're going.”

Regardless of what the focus is for SGI’s TSS, it is indeed important to drive within speed limits and to recognize that being in traffic is not being a contestant in a race, it’s a privilege to share the roads with others who all have families at home waiting for their safe return.

Make it a goal, then, to not be one of the ticket stats coming out next month from SGI’s spotlight.
