If you've been wondering if maybe this is the year to get that Harley, or maybe even just a Vespa, Manager of Media Relations with SGI, Tyler McMurchy, shared with Discover Weyburn what is different these days for the new motorcyclists.

"For riders in the Motorcycle Graduated Driver Licensing program, so, the new motorcycle riders, they do actually have additional requirements for gear," he explained. "They must have their arms and legs covered and wear hand-covering gloves, ankle-covering boots, and an approved three-quarter modular or full-face helmet, so they are required to wear all that."

"Experienced riders, their requirements aren't quite as strict, but they are required by law to wear helmets," said McMurchy, noting that, nonetheless, gearing up fully can really save your skin in the case of a wipe-out.

"You should wear eye protection as well, and of course, we always recommend that motorcycle riders wear, you know, protective gear, whether it's a jacket that they can protect them, gloves and boots as well."

As for other drivers, McMurchy reminds drivers that motorcycles need a full lane.

"Like with all other vehicles, and they're entitled to it, so that's something that drivers should know," he said. "Also, if you're approaching an intersection and you're turning left, look, and then look again, because those motorcycles might be harder to see if you're coming across that lane. You don't want to get in their way, of course, they have the right of way if they're proceeding right through it."

Remember: Look, and Look Again is a habit that can save lives on Saskatchewan roads this summer.
