Downtown Swift Current could be found bustling last weekend as a Silent Demonstration took place in front of City Hall.

The group, who are calling themselves the Freedom Patriots, elaborated on their stance in a statement to Swift Current Online.

“Our Silent Demonstration on Saturday was attended by those who are becoming increasingly disturbed by the government's divisive and controversial Covid-19 restrictions,” said the Freedom Patriots. “This includes the vaccine mandate which coerces people to make an impossible decision to get vaccinated (or tested every week at their own cost) or face losing their source of income which feeds their families and keeps a roof over their heads.”

The statement also says that they believe that the vaccine mandate is discriminatory to a number of different groups including individuals that are unable to take the vaccine.

The statement goes on to say that they are a diverse group, with a shared opinion.

“Our group, called the Freedom Patriots, are citizens from all over the southwest and from every occupation, standing up to these dictatorial measures which violate The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, The Canadian Bill of Rights, The Privacy Act, The Health Information Protection Act (HIPA), and more,” stated the Freedom Patriots.

The Silent Demonstration in Swift Current saw a group of approximately 120 Freedom Patriot’s, which they stated was three times higher than the previous event two weeks ago.

The group also stated that their concerns have been presented to Swift Current’s MLA, and they are waiting for a response.

They concluded the statement with their plans for the future.

“More rallies are being planned and we welcome both the vaccinated and unvaccinated who believe in maintaining the rights and freedoms of everyone to come join us,” stated the Freedom Patriot’s.
