Edmund Bellegarde speaks in front of the new housing

The Silver Sage rental housing development has opened 22 new affordable rental suites in Swift Current near Central School.

They received $2.4 million dollars in funding towards the project from the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation.

Full Interview with Edmund Bellegarde"This is an investment, primarily to try to make sure we're living up to our end of the commitment we made to the city of Swift Current when we asked for their confidence to build the casino and develop our projects here in the city." Silver Sage Holdings Board Chair Edmund Bellegarde said.  "The affordable housing units are for families in the city of Swift Current, initially when we built the casino we talked about making other investments and housing was a primary issue."

Bellegarde also said with so little First Nations presence in Swift Current they're optimistic the $50 million of investment they made could change that.

"We're hoping with the casino, the hotel, the performing arts centre, these housing projects, we'll start to attract more First Nations people to Swift Current."

The new affordable rental suites are available to all families with an income threshold of $52,000 per household.
