SaskEnergy and the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League are partnering once again to raise money for KidSports in the province.

The utility company donates $20 for every home goal scored by an SJHL team during the 2022-23 regular season, through the Goals for KidSport program.

Allix Schweitzer, the community engagement supervisor at SaskEnergy, said the donating caps off at 1000 goals, or $20,000.

“It's a long-standing partnership between SaskEnergy, KidSport and the SJHL,” she said. “That's aimed at helping youth participate in sports by reducing the financial pressure often associated with accessing sport activities.”

This year will be the ninth season of the program, which has raised around $210,000 for SJHL communities so far.

Schweitzer said there are a number of reasons that SaskEnergy continues to be a part of Goals for KidSport.

“Helping kids access sport fits really well with our community investment program and strategy,” she commented. “Easing that financial barrier is just a good way for us to help kids in communities.”

She added that it’s also a chance for them to work with SaskEnergy Network members, and promote their Champion of Volunteers Program.

All of the money raised through Goals for KidSport stays within the SJHL team communities.
