Motorists are being reminded to slow down when passing tow truck operators on the side of the road.

With winter road conditions upon us tow trucks are out in full force assisting those in need.

Cindy Remple one of the owners of Low Cost Towing says operators often see motorists pass without slowing down.

"There's lots of times where there's accidents, people in the ditch that type of thing and were working right along the highway or using up one of the lanes. We have our flashers on and stuff but people dont slow down. So it makes it more dangerous for us when were trying to hook vehicles up."

Remple says motorists must remember to slow down when passing.

" Well if they see a tow truck out there with their lights on, you know we have our hazard lights on and our flashers on the top our beacons to warn everyone to slow down. And they are to slow down to 60 when passing any type of emergency working vehicle. And tow trucks although were not classified as emergency vehicle's in that respect, people still need to slow to 60 just because we are working out there on the highway and it gets dangerous"

Motorists who are caught not slowing down when passing a tow truck with flashing lights can face a fine of at least $464.
