Taking a look at the week that was in the Swift Current Athletic Conference, it was a big week for both boys and girls soccer clubs, as both will be starting their playoff runs in the coming days.

The Ardens downed Moose Jaw in their final league game; hammering home an emphatic 11-0 win to end their season unbeaten and in possession of not only the first seed in the playoffs but an automatic bye into the semifinals. They'll have to wait to see who they'll be facing, as they'll stake on the lowest seed team heading out the quarterfinals beginning tomorrow.

Over on the Colts side of the pitch, despite a loss to Moose Jaw Central on what turned out to be their final game of the season. They were to have a follow-up with Yorkton Regional, who had to forfeit the scheduled game, giving Swift Current the third seed heading into the playoffs. They'll take on Peacock in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Elsewhere in the SWAC, the 12-man Colts football squad had their Saturday game against Yorkton cancelled. The coaching staff is now looking at makeup dates, but with a bye week coming up, the Colts won't see action again until October 16 when they take on Weyburn.

9-man leagues meanwhile finally got their chance to hit the field on Friday as Lumsden dismantled Maple Creek 36-18, and Shaunavon downed Gull Lake 19-6. Notre Dame will be heading to Maple Creek and Gull Lake will be in Lumsden on October 7, while Shaunavon will host Indian Head the following day.

Coming up Wednesday, SWAC Cross Country Championships are taking place at the Eastend Streambank golf course. Runners from Grade 4 - 12 will compete beginning at 1:00 p.m, with winners from grades 9-12 qualifying for the SHSAA Provincial Championships in Humboldt on October 16, 2021.
