Heavy rainfall in Alberta is expected to cause a significant rise in flows in the South Saskatchewan River into Lake Diefenbaker.

The Saskatchewan Watershed Authority says levels in the river are expected to rise by three metres over the next few days. Flows and water levels are expected to be similar to those seen in 2005, and the peak is expected to reach the Alberta/Saskatchewan boundary later today or early tomorrow.

The Authority recently increased releases from Gardiner Dam to prepare for the extra water, and say more increases may be needed.
