Could Saskatchewan see severe weather like Manitoba did?

A string of tornadoes in Southern Manitoba, including Friday night's destructive F-4  in Elie have residents wondering if Southwest Saskatchewan has the same potential for the storms.

Meteorologist Bob Cormier says funnel clouds and tornadoes aren't particularly common in the area.

He says most funnel clouds or tornadoes form in the Southeastern corner of the province and extend northwest.

Cormier adds June through early August is the maximum severe weather season.

According to Environment Canada, winds from the tornado which struck Elie would have been between 331 and 417 kilometers per hour.
