Busy weekend for minor hockey

The Source for Sports U18 AA Broncos beat Melville 5-1 on Saturday before falling 5-4 in Yorkton on Sunday.

The SWT U-13 Broncos beat the Regina Tigers 3-1 at home on Sunday in their only game of the weekend.

The Full Line Ag U18 AA Wildcats got past the Western Prairie Thunder 2-1 Sunday at InnovationPlex, while the Graphic Edge U15 Wildcats tied the Warman Wildcats 3-3 and the WW Smith U13 Wildcats fell 13-2 and 7-3 to the Western Prairie Thunder on the road.

In the WHL on Sunday, Prince Albert beat Medicine Hat 4-2 and Red Deer beat Calgary 3-2 in overtime. The Swift Current Broncos visit the Winnipeg ICE on Friday.

Andrei Kuzmenko scored the overtime winner for the Vancouver Canucks in a 4-3 win over the San Jose Sharks in NHL action on Sunday. Elsewhere, Saku Maenalanen and Pierre-Luc Dubois had two goals each as Winnipeg routed Chicago 7-2 and Claude Giroux scored 20 seconds into extra time to give the Ottawa Senators a 3-2 win over the LA Kings. Edmonton hosts Florida and Toronto visits Detroit in the NHL tonight.

Ardens go winless at volleyball provincials

It was a rough weekend for the Swift Current Comp High School Ardens, who went winless through four pool games at 5A Girls' Provincials in Balgonie and did not qualify for playoffs. Saskatoon Holy Cross defeated Prince Albert St. Mary's in straight sets to win the championship while the host Greenall High School finished third.

Meanwhile, Fox Valley finished fourth at 1A Boys' Provincials in Beechy, losing two sets to one to Rouleau in the bronze medal game. Bellevue defeated Annaheim 2-0 to win the title.
