Darby makes WHL debut with Portland

Swift Current’s Hudson Darby made his WHL regular season debut with the Portland Winterhawks last night. The Home Hardware Legionnaires captain and leading scorer (8 goals, 19 points) won three face-offs on the third line as Portland beat Everett 5-2.

In other WHL action, Prince George beat Moose Jaw 5-2, Medicine Hat routed Edmonton 6-1 and Winnipeg beat Lethbridge 3-2. The Swift Current Broncos host the Oil Kings on Friday and Saturday.

Leafs put a stop to Devils' run

The Toronto Maple Leafs edged New Jersey 2-1 to snap the Devils’ 13-game winning streak. The Devils had three goals called back on review, prompting fans in Newark to throw beer cans and other debris on the ice. The Leafs were called back to the dressing room and the game was delayed for five minutes in the third period.

In other NHL action, David Savard scored the game winner against his former team as the Montreal Canadiens beat Columbus 3-1 and Ethan Bear broke a tie with eight minutes left as the Vancouver Canucks beat Colorado 4-3. Elsewhere, Minnesota beat Winnipeg 6-1, the Islanders blanked Edmonton 3-0, Pittsburgh beat Calgary 2-1 in the shootout and Vegas beat Ottawa 4-1.

Canada gives Belgium all they could handle in World Cup loss

Canada is still searching for their first win and first goal at the FIFA World Cup, but still took a lot of positives away from their long-awaited return to the tournament. 

Alphonso Davies was stopped on an early penalty kick and Canada dominated the possession game against the second-ranked Belgians, who won the game 1-0. 

Canada, who are playing in the men's World Cup for the first time since 1986, will face Croatia in their next game on Sunday and will wrap up the group stage against Morocco next Thursday. 

Switzerland edged Cameroon 1-0 to open the final day of matchround one this morning. Uruguay faces Korea, Portugal battles Ghana and Serbia takes on Brazil in other games today.

Turkey day football on tap in the NFL

Thanksgiving in the United States means a full day of NFL football. 

Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills visit the Detroit Lions to open today’s triple-header, while the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys square off in an NFC East showdown this afternoon in Arlington, Texas. Minnesota hosts New England in primetime.
