WHL and NHL recap

The Swift Current Broncos don't play again until the weekend, but there's still a lot of action around the WHL with four games on the schedule Wednesday night.

The Saskatoon Blades beat Lethbridge 3-2, Red Deer beat Calgary 5-2, Winnipeg edged Vancouver 4-3 and Brandon blanked Kelowna 3-0.

The lone game on tonight's schedule is another edition of the “Trans-Canada Clash” between the Moose Jaw Warriors and Regina Pats in the Friendly City.

The Broncos host Lethbridge in their next game on Saturday.

In the NHL, Neal Pionk scored a pair of goals including the overtime winner as the Winnipeg Jets beat Colorado 4-3. Former Bronco Adam Lowry picked up an assist for his first point of the season.

All seven Canadian teams are part of a busy 12-game slate tonight. The Vancouver Canucks wrap up a season-opening five-game road swing when they take on the Minnesota Wild. The Canucks have lost each of their first four games, all while holding multi-goal leads.

Meanwhile, the Calgary Flames will look to keep their unbeaten start alive when they host the Buffalo Sabres at the Saddledome, while the Edmonton Oilers welcome the Carolina Hurricanes just up the QEII at Rogers Place. Elsewhere, Toronto hosts Dallas, Montreal welcomes Arizona and Winnipeg visits Vegas.

The quarterback will make his first career CFL start on Saturday when the Riders host the Calgary Stampeders. Fine has thrown for 390 yards and two touchdowns as a backup to Cody Fajardo.

The Riders are on a five-game losing streak and are tied with Hamilton for the last playoff spot with two weeks left in the regular season.
