Legionnaires pick up first win in OT

The Home Hardware Legionnaires picked up their first win of the season with a 2-1 overtime victory over the Saskatoon Blazers on the road Wednesday night. 

Eric Hoiness scored the tying goal with 10 minutes left in the third, and Parker Rondeau scored the winning goal 2:52 into the extra frame. Berney Weston made 35 saves in the win. 

The Legionnaires visit the Estevan Bears for a pair of games this weekend. 

In the WHL last night, Regina beat Brandon 3-1, Moose Jaw also beat Saskatoon 3-1 and Prince Albert blanked Lethbridge 3-0. The Swift Current Broncos host the Raiders in their next game on Friday. 

David Rittich made 37 saves and Kyle Connor scored twice as the Winnipeg Jets blanked Calgary 5-0 in the NHL pre-season. Elsewhere, Elias Pettersson had two goals including the game-winner as the Vancouver Canucks beat Edmonton 5-4 for their first pre-season victory. The Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa Senators will play in Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador, in pre-season action tonight.

Colts host Elecs on Local Sports Live

The Comp High School Colts are set to play their first home game in over a month when they host the Estevan Elecs this afternoon. 

The Colts (1-3) sit fifth in the rural 12-aside football league, while Estevan is looking for their first win of the season. 

Today’s game is also a fundraiser for the Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation as donations will be taken at the gate for the upcoming Pharmasave Radiothon for Healthcare. 

Kick-off is at 4:00pm and you can also hear the game on B & A Petroleum Local Sports Live on the Eagle 94.1 FM.

In 9-man football Wednesday, the Shaunavon Shadows got past the Notre Dame Hounds 27-19.

The local flag football finals were held Wednesday night where the Reds beat the Bears 36-24 to capture the championship.

Blue Jays split season-ending doubleheader

Gabriel Moreno hit his first career home run for the Toronto Blue Jays as they wrapped up the regular season with a double-header split against Baltimore. The Jays lost 5-4 in the opener before beating the O’s 5-1 in the finale. 

Toronto will face Seattle in the best-of-three wild card series which starts Friday afternoon at 2:07pm from Rogers Centre. Blue Jays ace Alek Manoah will start the opener against the Mariners' Luis Castillo.

Raptors beat Celtics in OT

Pascal Siakam and Precious Achiuwa had 13 points each as the Toronto Raptors stayed perfect in the NBA pre-season with a 125-119 overtime win over the Boston Celtics. The Raptors visit Houston on Friday and then host Chicago on Sunday.
