A local woman from the Village of Frontier was among the 10 people to recently be announced to receive the 2023 Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal.

Helga Wold has been a beloved pillar of her community, volunteering as a member of various organizations for over 60 years.

The medals will be given out at a ceremony at the Government House in Regina on April 16, fittingly enough, it will also be National Volunteer Week.

Wold bakes pies for the Ladies' Rink Club fundraisers every week and has helped furnish a palliative care room as a Southline Palliative Care Committee member.

She also held the position of treasurer for several years at the Frontier United Church and knits prayer shawls for the church community.

Additionally, Wold is a member of the Fowl Supper Committee, the Senior Citizen's Group, and Southline Quilters.

The Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal has been given to 261 outstanding members of society across the province since 1995.
