The Swift Current SPCA Shelter is kicking off their "$18 for '18" campaign today.

The local SPCA, the only animal shelter that serves Southwest Saskatchewan, is encouraging everyone to donate $18 or more to help fund their 2018 operating budget, which can see expenses of up to $25,000 per month. The SPCA relies almost entirely on donations from the public for its operations, as it receives no Provincial or Federal Government funding.

Two events highlight the "$18 for '18" campaign, including a Celebrity Dog Pound event at the shelter this afternoon where local celebrities will be "impounded" until they can raise enough donations to pay for their "pound fees", and National Cupcake Day on February 26 where they will join other animal shelters and humane societies across Canada to raise money through cupcake sales by businesses, schools and other organizations.

Colin talked with Teresa Cole, Development Officer for the Swift Current SPCA, on Thursday's Redhead Equipment Magic Morning Show about the campaign.

If you want to get involved in National Cupcake Day on February 26, you can call Teresa at 306-773-1292 or email teresa@spcaswiftcurrent.com.
