The Council of the town of Maple Creek has reviewed the financial implications of building a new swimming pool in the community, and believe that, at this time, pursuing the project would be an unreasonable financial burden for rate payers.

Maple Creek Mayor, Michelle McKenzie explained saying, "The Pool Project was to come in at 2.9 million dollars. So when we're looking at grant funding, and of course with COVID and the delay and everything else, the prices have rose. What they looked at when we went for the grant was 4.2 million dollars. That is not something that we want to put on our rate payers."

She adds that does not mean they will not be building a new pool, it simply means that, along with the Swimming Pool Fundraising Committee, they believe that it should be looked at again from the beginning and will simply be delayed. "I'd really just want to stress that we're not canceling the Swimming Pool Project. Town Council came together and agreed to delay the project. This is just simply pushing the time line back from when would have liked to have started the project."

Maple Creek has been without a swimming pool since 2018.
